Why do I love older people.. you ask?! It’s because the wisdom they share, the experience, knowledge and good judgement.. no matter their past!

This little beauty, Miss Verla looks me up for a shampoo and set whenever she’s here visiting her family~ four hours from her home. I have to brag cause she’s 99-years-old and one of my furthest traveling clients, honestly without being told her age.. I would have never known!!

She exemplifies all I hope to be! She’s sweet, kind, happy, hardworking, witty and a wonderful mother.. all these characteristics I do see!!

Miss Verla never complains! She takes care of herself.. I must say!

She was a school teacher for thirty-six years. You can tell that she holds that time very dear.

Keeps her hair done, wears a little make-up.. not too much. I like that she’s moderate.. never too much!

Most of all she wears a smile.. it’s truly compliments her style!

Today, just as she was arriving to our salon.. our roof (that is planned to be replaced) started to have another leak.. I was embarrassed and nervous. Without batting an eye.. she said, “it could be worse!!”

I must say we all should take heed. Our elders always have a way of expression that we all need!

She’s told me lots of stories.. some about hardship. Although, it’s like she sees those moments as stepping stones.. her eloquence can make your heart skip! 

One thing that stood out to her was when there was a tornado while she was teaching her first grade class. She had her students hide under their desks.

Ultimately, she said she prayed. She will never forget that day!

At the end of her service I asked if she would take a picture with me and of course she obliged. When I think of her heart it makes me sigh!

Such a breath of fresh air.. doing miss Verla’s hair!

One thing I know for sure~ we are remembered for how we make others feel. My goal is to be like her.. to be the real deal!

Before miss Verla left, I asked her, if she thought making it past 100 was in the plan. Her response was, “it’s in God’s hands!”

Can you say, goosebumps? Elders are always reminding us what’s up! ❤️蘭
